State looking for trustees to head new Montana Healthcare Foundation

The Montana Attorney General’s Office deposited a new $40 million check this week—money from the sale of Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Montana to an out of state company.

Another $100 million or more may eventually be on the way as Blue Cross sells off its assets.

Why the AG doesn’t want the AP to know who has a concealed carry permit

 Attorney General Tim Fox said Monday he is denying a request from the Associated Press to turn over information about the state’s more than 30-thousand concealed carry permit holders.

The information includes names, addresses and driver’s license numbers for those with the concealed weapons permits. The AP made the request in mid-March, after the legislature passed a bill making the information confidential but before it was signed by Governor Steve Bullock.

BCBS-MT sale proceeds will create Montana Healthcare Foundation

Montana’s Attorney General announced Friday the proceeds from the sale of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana to a larger, out of state, insurance company will be used to create the “Montana Healthcare Foundation.”

Montana AG opposes "internet sales tax" bill

The "Marketplace Fairness Act" - better known as the "Internet Sales Tax" bill -  recently passed the U.S. Senate without the help of Montana Democrats Max Baucus and Jon Tester.
      The proposal will soon go before the U-S House where it's widely expected to face a more skeptical reception. Montana Republican Representative Steve Daines has already gone on the record opposing the measure. 

If implemented, it would require states to force e-commerce retailers in other states to collect sales taxes for them.
